Who runs this website

Virtual Zen Garden is an independently operated project run by an individual based in mainland China. Contact: support@virtualzengarden.com.

What stays on your device

We use localStorage for sound, daylight, picture quality, controls, introduction status, and analytics choices. IndexedDB stores one editable sand drawing. These features do not require an account. Drawings, stroke coordinates, and exported PNG images are not sent to our servers or analytics providers.

You can clear this data in your browser’s site settings. Clearing data also removes your saved drawing. Private browsing and device changes may prevent drawings from being retained.

Optional Google Analytics

If you allow analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand visits, loading failures, and whether garden features are used. Events include entering the garden, saving or exporting a drawing, ringing the bell, feeding koi, and starting or completing a sitting timer. Events do not contain drawings, stroke coordinates, player positions, names, or email addresses.

Analytics may process browser and device information, page URLs, approximate location derived from IP addresses, and cookie-based identifiers. It is not a guarantee of complete anonymity. Google may process information outside your country. We disable Google Signals and advertising personalization in our integration. We do not load Google Analytics before you opt in, and declining does not affect the garden.

You can change your choice using “Privacy choices” in the footer. Withdrawal stops future analytics from this website and removes accessible analytics cookies; it does not automatically erase historical information already held by Google. Hosting and support

Vercel hosts the website. Infrastructure providers may process IP addresses, request metadata, and technical logs to deliver and protect it. Domain DNS and support email forwarding use Cloudflare. Messages sent to our support address are forwarded to a Gmail inbox and are used to answer your request. Do not send sensitive information or passwords.

Retention and your choices

Browser-local data remains until you remove it or the browser clears it. We retain support correspondence only as needed to handle the request and related obligations. GA4 user-level and event-level retention is set to two months, with renewal on new activity disabled. Aggregated standard reports may be retained longer by Google. Analytics cookies are set to expire after 60 days without automatic renewal. Provider security logs follow their own retention policies.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal information, withdraw consent, and complain to a relevant authority. Contact us to make a request. We cannot identify a particular local drawing because we do not receive it.

Children

This service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children.

Changes

We update this page when our data practices change. We will seek new consent where required.
